Fit for a Queen
This piece, and others like it, was probably made to mark Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee in 1887. By that time, Victoria had ruled the British Empire for fifty years. Patterns like this one, “Nova Scotia Victoria Commemorative”, have been attributed to Nova Scotia glass companies based in Pictou County, in the 1890s. Queen Victoria was a popular monarch, and her lengthy reign (64 years) was commemorated by a variety of pieces and patterns similar to this one.
