Phased reopening - summer 2021

The Nova Scotia Museum is pleased to welcome you back to our sites!

  • On June 15, 2021, Government announced that admission fees to all Nova Scotia Museum sites would be waived for the months of July and August, 2021.
  • Free admission in July and August does not extend to enhanced visitor experiences, such as special tours or programming.

During phase 3 of Nova Scotia’s reopening plan, museums, can operate at 50% capacity and visitors need to continue to follow public health measures like social distancing and masks. We will provide updates an we move into each new phase.

Every museum has information on their website as a “Know before you go” guide to help prepare you for your museum experience. Please review this information before your visit, and do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

  • please stay home if you are unwell, if you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or if you have been around someone who is unwell.
  • everyone visiting the museum should practice social distancing to reduce their exposure to other people - this means you should stay at least two metres away from anyone you do not live with or who isn’t in your group.
  • masks are mandatory for staff and visitors at all Nova Scotia Museum sites in indoor, and some outdoor public spaces. Children under the age of 2 are exempt, as well as children under the age of 4 when their caregiver can’t get them to wear a mask. People with a valid medical reason for not wearing a mask are also exempt.
  • we are pleased to welcome visitors in groups of no more than 10 individuals. Your group of 10 must be consistent (the same people all the time).

  • Fisherman’s Life Museum is currently closed, however projects are underway to improve the infrastructure and enhance the visitor experience for when the site does reopen to the public.

Other Nova Scotia Museum sites will be reopening through the month of July. We will post updates on reopening dates on our social media platforms as well as on our websites. For the months of July and August admission to all Nova Scotia Museum sites will be free.

This year’s season will be  another new museum experience for everyone. Some exhibits and programs will change a bit to ensure public health guidelines can be met, and others may not be available just yet. We appreciate your patience as we work on solutions to offer content in way that keeps both visitors and staff safe.

To meet physical distancing requirements of 2 metres / 6 feet, there are capacity limits in place. Depending on the time of day, there may be a short wait when you arrive. Visitors should plan for a longer visit than usual since the experience at many sites is now one-way. Some of our smaller sites may be offering tours by appointment only at this time, please visit museum websites for more details.

Visitors will be asked to respect public health guidance, including physical distancing and good hand hygiene. Most importantly, we also ask that you stay home if you are not feeling well -- we’ll be here to welcome you when you are feeling better.

The COVID-19 global pandemic has changed so much in our world, but it hasn’t changed the dedication of our museum staff, who remain enthusiastic about Nova Scotia’s rich heritage and about sharing it with visitors. We look forward to seeing you this summer!
