Ethnology Collection - Hand-Carved Wooden Box

When the Treasure is the Box

It’s not always what’s inside that matters most. Sometimes it’s the box itself. This exceptional little treasure is not much bigger than a deck of cards. It was hand carved by Louis Jeremy, a Mi’kmaw artisan born in Brickton, Nova Scotia in 1879. A skilled woodsman and prolific carver, Jeremy’s passion for his craft shines through in all his work – bowls, small boxes, deer and moose calls, baskets, furniture and other decorative pieces
