This collection would have been used on Joseph Howe’s dinner table. Dinners were much more formal events than they are today, as demonstrated by these dishes. Seen here are:
- Glass finger bowl, with cut and polished 6-pointed star decoration on bottom.
- Ceramic vegetable dish, decorated with a scalloped edge and gilt (gold paint or gold leaf) decorations.
- A three-piece condiment set, one with a stopper, one with a shaker top, and one with a hinged lid and spoon. These would have been on the table to allow diners to season their food with items such as vinegar, salt, or mustard.
