Photograph

This photograph of Joseph Howe was taken around 1864-65, when he was about 60 years old. It was taken by a famous Halifax photographer named William Chase. At the time the photo was taken, it is believed that Joseph Howe had an office in the Halifax Chronicle newspaper building which was right around the corner from Chase’s studio. It was around this time that Howe wrote the “Botheration Letters” in the Halifax Chronicle. These letters strongly attacked Confederation.
