Carpet Bag

This carpet bag was used as a suitcase by Joseph Howe to carry his personal possessions when he travelled. He often had to travel to different parts of Nova Scotia for work. Carpet bags were made out of carpet and were very durable. This made them one of the most popular type of luggage in the mid-1800s. (Photograph by Roger Lloyd. Nova Scotia Museum)
