Adventure at Sea!
Ahoy! March 11 – March 19 will be your chance to sail away during March Break. Start your adventure from 10 am to 4 pm (Sundays, 1 pm – 4 pm) where you can also create a craft, test your game skills, and take a journey through our galleries…make those galleys! We look forward to welcoming you aboard.
Museum of Industry

One of Canada’s few comprehensive industrial museums, the Nova Scotia Museum of Industry tells the story of work and workers. Here you will find technology, steam engines and locomotives, cars and coal mining. Children will love the hands-on fun, the trains, and the demos.
Age of the Mastodon
Step back in time – waay back – to the AGE OF THE MASTODON in Nova Scotia. 80,000 years ago, Nova Scotia’s forests and climate were the perfect place for mastodons. You’ll be amazed by the reproduction of a full mastodon skeleton and see some real mastodon fossils found across our province.
You can also join our interpreters for crafts, hear a story with our mastodon puppet, Melissa, and her friends, and lots of other fun activities.
March Break Activities run Saturday March 11 until Sunday March 19, 2023, 9:30 – 4:30 each day.
Black Loyalist Heritage Centre

The Black Loyalist Heritage Centre tells the story of the world’s largest free African population outside of Africa, in the late 18th century in Nova Scotia.
Enjoy the view of Birchtown Bay when you climb up the Shaw Turret, which commemorates all Black Loyalist communities in Nova Scotia. Enter the Centre’s Lindsay Gallery and immerse yourself in the multimedia presentation of the Black Loyalist journey from Africa to the American colonies, then to Nova Scotia and back to Africa. Explore the virtual copy of the Carlton’s Book of Negroes and search for an ancestor who may have experienced part of this incredible journey.
History Challenge
The Black Loyalist Heritage Centre will be hosting the Black Loyalist Heritage Centre History Challenge throughout the week. Visitors can take a challenge sheet and during their visit can look for answers to the questions provided. At the end of their visit, youth age 18 and under can turn in their completed challenge sheet to be entered into a draw for prizes.
Firefighters’ Museum of Nova Scotia

Visit the Firefighters’ Museum in Yarmouth to discover the history of firefighting in this province.
Imagine the clang of the fire bell, the smell of smoke and the feel of hot steam as firefighters of the past raced to save burning homes in communities across Nova Scotia.
See the types of fire engines used from the 1800s to the 1930s. Marvel at antique hand-drawn and operated engines such as Canada’s oldest horse-drawn steam engine, an 1863 Amoskeag Steamer. Take the wheel of a 1933 Chev Bickle pumper and see collections of antique toy fire engines, shoulder crests, patches and badges from fire departments around the world.

Ross Farm Museum

Come to Ross Farm Museum to explore 60 acres of rolling farmland and discover what life was like on a Nova Scotia family farm over 100 years ago.
March Break at Ross Farm
- The Schoolhouse – One room school, originally located in Harriston.
- Ross Barn – Farm implements exhibits on upper levels. Farm animals are located on the ground level.
- Workshop –Talk with the wood worker, and get a sample of homemade ice cream.
- Rose Bank Cottage – Original home of William and Mary Ross. Learn the history of the Ross family. Decorate a cookie.
- The Edward Ross Store – Represents the period of 1835-45, a time when Edward Ross ran the store on the family farm (reconstructed on the original site).
- Stave and Shingle Mill – Self guided tour.
- Blacksmith Shop – See our blacksmith working at the forge.
- Wagon Rides – Starting at the Ross Barn, from 10:00am to 12:00pm, and then from 1:30pm to 4:30pm.
- Bird Watch – Locate and identify felted birds and what they are perched on. Enter your name to win a feathered friend from our giftshop. Ballots are located in the gift shop.
Fundy Geological Museum

Explore Nova Scotia’s ancient geologic past and walk in the footsteps of some of Canada’s oldest dinosaurs with the Fundy Geological Museum. We are in Parrsboro, N.S. along the majestic shoreline of the Bay of Fundy, where the world’s highest tides erode the sea cliffs to reveal half a billion years of geological history. Visit our dynamic exhibit gallery to learn more about the area’s Triassic and Jurassic landscapes or book one of our experiences or guided outdoor tours.

The Fundy Geological Museum will be holding daily drop-in March break activities between 10am and 1pm!
- Monday- Make a suncatcher
- Tuesday- Fossil trail scavenger hunt
- Wednesday- Community craft with recyclable materials
- Thursday- Forest bingo
- Friday- Nature painting
All drop-in activities are free to attend and held outdoors - dress for the weather! Some events will move inside if it rains. Parents must accompany children under 12.
There will be a free outdoor kids Yoga with Will on Tuesday (March 14th) at 11:15am!
