History Collection - Philco TV

Broadcast Pioneers

Television came to Nova Scotia in 1954. On sets like this one, people were soon tuning in religiously to watch programs like Wayne and Shuster and The Ed Sullivan Show. This Philco “Princess” model came in a variety of colours and included such new advancements as a swiveling screen separated from the receiver box. Sets like this one have become so iconic that modern working reproductions are available. Does looking at this set make you nostalgic for those early days of television?
