History Collection - Nova Scotia Glass – Jar

A Nova Scotian Collectable

Beginning in 1881, Pictou County began manufacturing glass tableware. Three companies in Pictou County were producing glass products during the 1890s. Their pressed glass tableware pieces became collectable in the 1960s. However, identification can be tricky. We can find no evidence that the factory named its patterns or marked any of its pieces. The elegant “Swimming Swan” pattern on this pressed glass jar was identified in 1969 from shards found at the Nova Scotia Glass Company factory site (the pattern name was assigned later by collectors). It’s easy to see why Nova Scotia glass wares have stood the test of time.
