Whopper from a Bygone Era

View interactive 360° view

Collected by Robert Morrow of Halifax, this Atlantic Cod head skeleton (Gadus morhua) was featured at the London Fisheries Exhibition in 1883. And for good reason – the head alone is as long as many codfish caught today. Giants like this one are no longer found in Nova Scotia waters. The skeleton, meticulously prepared and assembled using brass wires, has been part of the Nova Scotia Museum’s collection for more than a century.
